First Trailer for M. Night Shyamalan’s ‘Old’ Debuts During Super Bowl

One of the few film trailers that debuted during yesterday’s Super Bowl came from none other than M. Night Shyamalan, the director of Unbreakable, The Sixth Sense, Signs and Split, who’s back with new horror film called Old. The film is set to release in theaters this summer.

The thirty-second TV spot gives us glimpse of the film’s story, which seems to revolve around a family’s trip to a beach that goes sideways. Old stars Thomasin McKenzie, Rufus Sewell, Embeth Davidtz, Abbey Lee, Eliza Scanlon, Alex Wolff, Gael Garcia Bernal and Ken Leung.

Shyamalan teased the trailer’s release in the days leading up to the big game, sharing one small clip of the film each day for five days. Shyamalan signed deal with Universal Studios in October of 2019, which revealed that the director would be writing, producing and directing two films for the studio, the first being Old. The second film is currently unknown, but it already has a planned release date of February 17, 2023.

The film, which was produced by Shyamalan alongside Ashwin Rajan and Marc Bienstock, was originally supposed to release February 26, 2021, but like many other films, the release date was pushed back due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Old will release in theaters July 23.
