Sony Pictures Debuts ‘Jumanji: Open World’ Trailer As Video-Game Chaos Spills Into Reality Ahead Of Christmas Release

Sony Pictures has debuted the official trailer for Jumanji: Open World, the third and final installment in director Jake Kasdan’s blockbuster video-game-centric trilogy reboot, slated to open in theaters on Christmas Day, December 25, 2026. Arriving on the heels of 2017’s Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle ($962 million worldwide) and 2019’s Jumanji: The Next Level ($802 million worldwide), the concluding chapter marks a structural callback to the 1995 original by unleashing the game’s avatars and jungle wildlife out of the console and directly into the real world.

The franchise’s primary ensemble returns in full, led by in-game avatars Dwayne Johnson as Dr. Xander “Smolder” Bravestone, Jack Black as Professor Shelly Oberon, Kevin Hart as Franklin “Mouse” Finbar, and Karen Gillan as Ruby Roundhouse. Returning alongside them are the real-world players portrayed by Alex Wolff (Spencer), Madison Iseman (Bethany), Morgan Turner (Martha), and Ser’Darius Blain (Fridge), as well as Nick Jonas, Awkwafina, Rhys Darby, Danny DeVito, and Bebe Neuwirth, who reprises her role as Nora from the 1995 feature. The cast also expands to include Burn Gorman, Nasim Pedrad, Brittany O’Grady, Dan Hildebrand, and Jack Jewkes.

Picking up from the mid-credits sequence in The Next Level where a heating technician inadvertently triggered the damaged console, the trailer reveals a new wave of body-swapping mechanics as the characters are pulled in to restore order. Spencer’s mother, Janice (Marin Hinkle), finds herself in the frame of Johnson’s Dr. Bravestone, while Spencer assumes Gillan’s martial-arts-proficient Ruby Roundhouse. Meanwhile, kitchen worker Donatas (Hildebrand) ends up inside Black’s Professor Oberon, and Nora’s young nephew Tyson (Jewkes) takes control of Hart’s Mouse Finbar.

Positioned as Sony’s prime holiday family counter-programming against mid-December tentpoles Avengers: Doomsday and Dune: Part Three, Jumanji: Open World will arrive exclusively in movie theaters on December 25, 2026.
