The sequel’s trailer was teased at The Game Awards on Thursday, with the film’s stars Ben Schwartz and Jim Carrey unveiling it.

The original film director, Jeff Fowler, returns for the sequel with the original scriptwriters Pat Casey, Josh Miller, and John Whittington.

Sonic the Hedgehog chronicles the narrative of the world’s fastest hedgehog as he embraces his new home on Earth. Carrey will also reprise his role as the villainous genius Dr. Robotnik, commonly known as Dr. Eggman.

The original film also starred James Marsden and Tika Sumpter, both of whom will return in the sequel. Sonic the Hedgehog, which hit theaters in February 2020, garnered over $58 million domestically in its opening weekend, becoming the greatest domestic debut for a video game franchise on the big screen to date. The picture has subsequently made about $320 million worldwide.

Natasha Rothwell, Adam Pally, Lee Majdoub, and newcomer Shemar Moore are among the live-action cast members.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is set to premiere on April 8, 2022.
