Florence Pugh, Rami Malek, and Benny Safdie Join Elite Cast of Christopher Nolan’s ‘Oppenheimer’

Christopher Nolan has found more stars to join his upcoming Oppenheimer film about the father of the atomic bomb, scientist J. Robert Oppenheimer.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Florence Pugh (Black Widow), Rami Malek (No Time to Die), and Benny Safdie (Licorice Pizza) are the latest additions to the elite cast members previously announced Robert Downey Jr., Matt Damon, Emily Blunt, and Cillian Murphy as scientist J. Robert Oppenheimer.

Pugh is set to play Jean Tatlock, a member of the Communist Party of the United States who has an on-again, off-again relationship with Oppenheimer and has caused huge security worries for government authorities. Safdie will play Edward Teller, a Hungarian physicist renowned as the “Father of the Hydrogen Bomb” and a member of the Manhattan Project, the United States’ research project that built the first atomic bomb. Malek will play one of the scientists.

Written and directed by Nolan is an epic thriller that immerses spectators in the heart-pounding dilemma of the mysterious man who must risk destroying the world in order to rescue it. Oppenheimer will be distributed theatrically globally by Universal Pictures.

The film is based on Kai Bird and the late Martin J. Sherwin’s Pulitzer Prize-winning book American Prometheus: The Triumph and Tragedy of J. Robert Oppenheimer. Sherwin, unfortunately, passed away earlier this week.

Production is expected to begin in early 2022, with a release date of July 21, 2023.
