New Line has suspended the production of Olivia Wilde-directed film Don’t Worry Darling after a crew member tested positive for COVID-19. The studio acknowledged that something has occurred; it is an occupation threat of any film or TV filming right now, and so the studio has decided to halt production immediately.
The film stars Florence Pugh (Black Widow), Chris Pine (Wonder Woman), Harry Styles (Dunkirk), Nick Kroll (The Addams Family), Gemma Chan (Crazy Rich Asians), KiKi Layne (If Beale Street Could Talk), and Wilde. Carey and Shane Van Dyke wrote the screenplay but was revised by Wilde and her Booksmart collaborator Katie Silberman. The film was shot in downtown Los Angeles when the shutdown occurred yesterday.
The film followed strict regulations, and a positive result was developed during routine monitoring. The studio would not say who was positive but told Deadline’s Mike Fleming Jr. that it was not a part of the primary cast, but someone close enough to them that the shutdown was deemed necessary to check out if someone else had been exposed to the production. No one else has tested positive for COVID-19 at the time.
The film will be delayed for upwards of 14 days, the standard quarantine period advised in the safety protocols. Everyone was automatically isolated on the set when the positive result came back. The film started shooting last month, and it is only a few weeks into production.
