Kiersey Clemons May Be Top Choice For Female Lead in ‘The Flash’

Now that Warner Bros. has a director set for their DC entry The Flash, the ensemble should start to take shape shortly. It appears that if director Rick Famuyiwa has his way that rising actress Kiersey Clemons may be in serious contention to play the female lead opposite the already set Ezra Miller. Variety was the first to break this story.

Clemons recently appeared in Famuyiwa’s breakout 2014 Sundance hit Dope, so this piece of casting news shouldn’t appear all that surprising. While it’s not yet known what role Clemons might be up for, odds seem high that she might be portraying Iris West, the sharp journalist friend to Barry Allen, The Flash’s alter ego. Warner Bros. hasn’t offered confirmation as of yet. Famuyiwa recently replaced original director Seth Grahame-Smith, who penned the screenplay working from treatment written by The LEGO Movie helmers Chris Miller and Phil Lord. Miller debuted his speedy character, albeit very briefly, in Batman v Superman this past spring.

Aside from her critically admired performance in last year’s Dope, Clemons has recently appeared in the Amazon series Transparent and this summer’s Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising. She will next be seen in the indie Little Bitches and is currently filming Flatliners alongside Ellen Page (Freeheld), Diego Luna (Elysium) and Kiefer Sutherland, who appeared in the original 1990-Julia Roberts film.

The Flash is expected to start production sometime this year.
