Ridley Scott Returns to ‘Alien’ To Complete His Follow-up To ‘Alien: Covenant’

Ridley Scott, director of the original Alien and its more recent prequels Prometheus and Alien: Covenant, is officially returning to the franchise. A new Alien film is in the works at 20th Century Studios. Scott is producing the project under his Scott Free banner, along with Michael Pruss. Aaron Guzikowski (Prisoners) is writing the script. So far, no director is attached to the film, but with Ridley Scott producing, it is quite possible he will helm it himself.

This new film will supposedly follow the story set up in Prometheus and Covenant, prequel films set well before the other films. They followed groups of scientists first encountering alien creatures which would later become Xenomorphs. Covenant ended with David, a synthetic, breeding a whole ship full of Xenomorphs and taking off into space in a major cliffhanger. This planned trilogy was originally thought cancelled with the release of Alien: Romulus and Alien: Earth, which were not produced by Scott nor did they follow that storyline. Now, Ridley Scott’s plans may be back on track.

There is no set release window for the film, but stay tuned for more details.
