Parents beware, the new drama Goat may not be for the faint of heart. The film, directed by Andrew Neel (King Kelly), explores fraternity hazing on college campuses and has made quite an impression on the festival circuit, starting with its world premiere at the 2016 Sundance Film Festival. Based on Brad Land’s memoir – and adapted for the screen by David Gordon Green (Pineapple Express), Mike Roberts (King Kelly) and Neel himself – Goats looks to provide an anguishing account of masculinity, all the name of “brotherhood.”
In Goat, Ben Schnetzer (Pride) portrays Brad, young man coming to terms following a terrifying assault embarking on a new life in college. His older brother, Brett (Nick Jonas), is already a popular dude on campus who lures Brad into pledging the same fraternity he belongs to. The hazing rituals, a long sacred and controversial frat practice, threatens to divide the two brothers as both dovetail into different emotional directions. James Franco (who also produced the title) co-stars, alongside Gus Halper (Ricki and the Flash), Danny Flaherty (King Jack), Virginia Gardner (Project Almanac) and Jake Picking (Dirty Grandpa).
