Female-Led ‘Plastic Man’ in the Works From Writer Cat Vasko to Script Movie

Warner Bros. and DC Films have hired Black List writer Cat Vasko to write the script for DC Comics hero Plastic Man, a female-led action-adventure. DC-based film production president Walter Hamada and executive Chantal Nong are managing for the studio as it changes gears for the project that was started two years ago. Amanda Idoko (The Mayor) was set to write the script in 2018 for a comedic action-adventure based on the characters created in 1941.

At first, Plastic Man wasn’t a DC character since Jack Cole created him for Quality Comics in 1941. As Quality came to an end in 1956, DC purchased many of the characters, and one of them was Plastic Man.

The comic is about an orphan forced to survive on the streets, Patrick “Eel” O’Brian, who shot during a robbery and was subjected to an unknown chemical liquid that gave his body the properties of rubber, causing him to stretch, bounce and form into any shape that he wanted. Thanks to a monk who tended to him when he was wounded, he turned to law and order and started apprehending criminals as Plastic Man.

Vasko is known for writing strong female stories, including Queen of the Air, the story of trapeze artist Lillian Leitzel with Margot Robbie attached to star, and reteaming with Robbie to adapt Gin Phillip’s novel Fierce Kingdom. She is also working on the adaptation of Boom! Comic Lumberjanes when it was with Fox but now is being developed as an animated series at HBO Max. She is working on a collaboration with Olivia Cooke (Ready Player One) and LaKeith Stanfield (Get Out) on a Disney Plus fairy-tale.

Cassandra Reichelt: I graduated from California State University of Long Beach in Spring 2021 with a degree in Journalism major. I did attend Long Beach City College for a couple of years, I then transferred to CSULB in 2019. I want to write something outside the normal, something no one would think to write about in a unique way. It also shows how far I am willing to go to produce something amazing that will get more readers interested in the world of Journalism. I am on my way to making a professional life for myself.
