‘The Switch’ Directors Will Speck and Josh Gordon Are Set to Direct Adaptation of Children’s Book ‘Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile’

Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile, based on the best-selling children’s book from author Bernard Waber is set to be adapted by Will Speck and Josh Gordon (The Switch) for Sony Pictures. The film is expected to be a live-action/animation set to be released on July 22, 2022.

Will Davies will write the script, and it follows Lyle, who loves to do chores for the Primm family and play with the neighborhood kids. He’s the happiest crocodile that any home could ever have, that is, until one neighbor insists that Lyle belongs in a zoo. Mr. Grumps and his cat, Loretta, don’t like crocodiles at all, and everything Lyle does to win them over fails. It will take all of Lyle’s charms and bravery to uncover the hero and friend hiding behind the big crocodile grin.

The classic children’s book was first published in 1965, and it centers around Lyle the reptile, who lives in a house on East 88th Street in New York City.

Waber wrote at least 33 books which have sold more than 1.75 million copies. He died in 2013 due to kidney failure.

There are adaptations already made based on Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile, such as an animated musical that was shown on HBO and a theatrical musical produced by Theatreworks USA
