Shailene Woodley Joins the Cast of ‘After Exile’

Big Little Lies’ Shailene Woodley has officially signed on to the cast of upcoming Joshua Michael Stern- directed drama, After Exile, which will also star Robert De Niro and Shia LaBeouf according to Deadline.

Anthony Thorne and Michael Tovo wrote the film’s script with the latter inspired from true events in his life. Thorne and Steve Snyder of Pacific Shore Films will be financing the project.

The premise of After Exile examines Mike Delaney who re-enters society after serving time in prison for killing an innocent man following a dangerous robbery. Delaney reconnects with his father who was once a convict in efforts to prevent his younger brother from pursuing a future in drugs and crime. After Exile explores redemption and forgiveness as well as the inglorious past of Delaney’s father who suffers from years of alcoholism and guilt following the lost of his wife. He attempts to save his sons from the dark paths they undertake.

Woddley is set to portray the character Dana, who grows up with Mike and forms a relationship with him only for the emotional weight to collapse on him when he falls to drugs. Dana attempts to rekindle their relationship once Mike is released from prison moving in with him and his father.

Filming will begin this November in Philadelphia.
