The trailer for the upcoming fantasy movie The Green Knight has just been released by A24. The movie is being directed by David Lowery, who directed the remake of Pete’s Dragon and the movie A Ghost Story. The movie’s cast is composed of actor Dev Patel, Joel Edgerton, Alicia Vikander, Sarita Choudhury, Sean Harris, Kate Dickie, Barry Keoghan, and Erin Kellyman.
The Green Knight is based on the Arthurian legend of the same name which is about Sir Gawain, who is the nephew of King Arthur and one of his Knight’s of the Round Table. The trailer indicates that this movie will follow the original story fairly closely. In the original legend a man known as the Green Knight rides into the castle of Camelot and challenges the Knights of the Round Table to attack him on the condition that in one year who ever attacks will have to travel the Green Knight’s castle and receive a similar strike from the Green Knight. Sir Gawain accepts the challenge and cuts off the Green Knight’s head, but then the Green Knight simply picks up his head and puts it back on. Sir Gawain is then forced to make the journey to the Green Knight’s home knowing that he must allow the knight to decapitate him.
Actor Dev Patel will be playing the role of Sir Gawain, and Ralph Ineson will be playing the titular Green Knight. The movie was originally supposed to be release in theaters last year but it was postponed and now is scheduled to be released in July of this year.
