The newest Scream film is finally here and premiered at a substantial $3.5 million on Thursday night. It seems fans aren’t tired of the franchise just yet from Thursday night’s numbers alone, and as a result, the film is on track to do very well in its opening weekend. With a budget of only $25 million, Scream is looking to be largely profitable for Paramount, possibly opening up opportunities for even more additions to the franchise in the future.
The fifth film, titled Scream rather than Scream 5, brings Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, and David Arquette back to the franchise in their iconic roles along with a largely new cast. Some of the newcomers include Jenna Ortega, Dylan Minnette, Melissa Barrera, and Jack Quaid. Matt Bettinelli-Olpin & Tyler Gillett also take on the enormous responsibility of directing this film as the first in the Scream franchise to not be directed by the late Wes Craven.
The official synopsis reads: “Twenty-five years after a streak of brutal murders shocked the quiet town of Woodsboro, a new killer has donned the Ghostface mask and begins targeting a group of teenagers to resurrect secrets from the town’s deadly past.”
The question that is beginning to be asked is will Scream be the film to beat out Spider-Man: No Way Home at the box office?
