‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’ to Resume Filming with Letitia Wright

Marvel Studios’ Black Panther: Wakanda Forever star Letitia Wright has recovered from injuries she sustained while on set filming the sequel last year, and now production can begin again in Atlanta next week for a four-week shoot.

Wright plays fan-favorite Shuri, King T’Challa’s sister, who helps the Black Panther and his allies with cutting-edge Wakandan technology.

Wright was injured while filming a stunt rig routine on location in Boston last August. Production was subsequently halted in late November after the Wakanda Forever crew recorded as much as they could without Wright as she recuperated at her London home.

Production was supposed to resume last Monday, but it was pushed back due to numerous cast and staff members, including Lupita Nyong’o, testing positive for COVID-19.

According to sources, the restart will not affect the film’s existing release date of November 11, 2022. It had previously been rescheduled for July 8, 2022.

Wakanda Forever is one of three Marvel films set to be released this year, including Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and Thor: Love and Thunder. The latest Marvel film released by Sony in December was Spider-Man: No Way Home. The film continues to make waves in both the domestic and global box office, beating out films like Titanic and the original Avengers as the highest-grossing domestic box office film of all time. Spider-Man: No Way Home became the first film since the pandemic to hit $1 billion globally.
