The Producers Guild of America announced that George Lucas and Kathleen Kennedy will be honored with the guild’s Milestone Award in recognition of their accomplishments and instrumental involvement in the film industry.
Lucas and Kennedy will be awarded both individually and as a pair for their combined efforts in leading Lucasfilm and their hands in creating some of the most landmark films of all time. The pair have a history of mutual friends and worked together on titles like the Indiana Jones saga. Individually, George Lucas is best known for his creation of the Star Wars films, arguably one of the biggest franchises of all time. Kennedy also has an illustrious career including work on E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, The Color Purple, and Hook.
After Lucas sold Lucasfilm to the Walt Disney Company in 2012, Kathleen Kennedy took over the company as President and still remains in that position ten years later. Under her leadership, Lucasfilm has been able to release a plethora of Star Wars content, including a trilogy and two spin off films, animated television shows, books, comics, and most recently, live-action television series on the Disney+ steamer including The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett.
The well-deserved award will be presented to the pair on March 19 at the Producers Guild Awards.
