Director Ridley Scott confirms a new Alien prequel is in the works in a LA Times interview. It will continue after Alien: Covenant, with Michael Fassbender’s (X-Men: First Class) character, David, “creating brave new world for himself.” The last Alien film in theaters was Alien: Romulus (2024) which was directed by Fede Álvarez, who worked with Scott to make the story work within the establish canon. The movie took place 20 years after the first Alien movie and Álvarez addressed thi with CBR. “It’s something I take personal pleasure in doing, making sure that it all tracks and is all part of the big Alien franchise story — not only in the story but also when it comes to how to make it. I talked with [Ridley] Scott as a producer and had long chats with James Cameron about it at the script level. After the movie was done, I showed it to them,” he told the interviewer.
In the same LA times article, Scott also discussed AI. The character David, is an AI gone rogue that becomes the villain in Alien: Covenant. Scott adds,”AIs can go off, and if they do, it’s like a bomb.” Blade Runner, one of Scott’s projects, dealt with AI going rogue as well. He ends the subject with, “I can compete with an AI without any problem making images. But it’s coming, inevitably.”
