Director Of ‘Godzilla: Minus Zero’ Talks Little Changes For The Kaiju

In an Interview with ScreenRant, Takashi Yamazaki (Godzilla: Minus One) speaks on what to expect from Godzilla in the sequel to his Oscar winning film Godzilla: Minus One. When asked how Godzilla is different in this film, Yamazaki responds, “Speaking of Godzilla’s appearance in Minus One, I would say it’s certainly a lot pointier, spikier, and edgier than its predecessor and its representative of the added terror that Godzilla represents in Godzilla Minus Zero.” The interview comes from ScreenRant’s Fall 2026 Movie Preview. Yamazaki follows, “Regarding its power again, thinking about Godzilla Minus One and Godzilla Minus Zero, in Godzilla Minus One we see Godzilla scattered at the end of the film. Over the past two years it was somehow able to regenerate from the cells that remained. The idea here is that nightmare has returned. It’s not bigger. It’s not more powerful. It’s the terror of facing something you thought you’ve defeated once that has somehow come back and landed in your shores.”

In the same interview, Yamazaki talks about the idea of other kaiju appearing in the film. For him, he rather approach the film from the human perspective and not just have a movie where humans watch two monster fight. “There certainly needs to be a lot of human drama woven into the very core of the film and the kaiju almost serve as a backdrop to pull a lot of the human drama to the surface. Again, I’m only speaking hypothetically if there is another kaiju in the film. It can’t be a simple kaiju vs kaiju fight. It needs to mean much more and have much deeper theme than that,” he states.
