Reese Witherspoon is set to star in two Netflix romantic comedies, Your Place or Mine and The Cactus. These two films are the first Witherspoon has done with the streaming service giant, which continues to marks Netflix’s dominance over the film industry.
Witherspoon’s Hello Sunshine production company teamed up with Netflix to produce these films. In addition to Hello Sunshine, Your Place or Mine will be produced by Jason Bateman and Michael Costigan. Witherspoon, who has previously produced hit shows like Big Little Lies and Little Fires Everywhere, tends to focus on producing shows with well rounded and complicated female characters, aiming to bring female voices and stories to the screen.
“We have been looking for the right feature opportunities to collaborate with Ted Sarandos, Scott Stuber and the entire team at Netflix for a while and we couldn’t be more excited to be working with them on these two romantic comedies. Both Sarah Haywood’s and Aline Brosh McKenna’s stories blend everything we love about traditional RomComs with strong, smart and determined female leads,” Witherspoon said in a statement
While it is still unknown who will direct The Cactus, Aline Brosh McKenna will direct Your Place or Mine. Brosh McKenna co-created Crazy Ex-Girlfriend and wrote the script for The Devil Wears Prada.
