According to Deadline, Rebecca Ferguson is in talks to join the cast of The Girl On The Train. Emily Blunt (Edge of Tomorrow, Sicario) had previously been announced as one of the three major female leads in the film, which is to be directed by Tate Taylor (Get On Up, The Help).
The screenplay by Erin Cressida Wilson (Men, Women, and Children) is an adaptation of the New York Times-best selling novel of the same name by Paula Hawkins. The story follows an alcoholic divorcee who spends her train commute fantasizing about the seemingly perfect lives of a couple whose house the train passes daily. She witnesses something shocking happening there and gets pulled into a murder mystery as things spiral out of control in her own life.
Ferguson, a Swedish actress, is coming off highly positive reviews for her work as Ilsa Faust, a covert agent alongside Tom Cruise’s Ethan Hunt in this summer’s Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation. She was reportedly in tests for the female lead opposite Channing Tatum in the X-Men spinoff, Gambit, however Deadline reports she has taken herself out of the running for that film. Ferguson’s next film due out is Despite The Falling Snow, Cold War romantic thriller. She is also in Florence Foster Jenkins, a biopic currently in post-production, starring Meryl Streep and Hugh Grant.
DreamWorks’ The Girl On The Train is currently in pre-production and is scheduled for release sometime in 2016.
