New Spider-Man Tom Holland Cast in ‘Lost City of Z’

Marvel‘s newly minted Spider-Man, Tom Holland, will be taking on the Amazonian jungle prior to Peter Parker’s next foray in New York City, in the action-adventure adaptation Lost City of Z. He will be joining stars Charlie Hunnam (TV’s Sons of Anarchy), Sienna Miller (American Sniper), and Robert Pattinson (The Rover). Holland’s role has not yet been revealed.

Based on the novel by David Grann, the story follows adventurer Percy Fawcett in the 1920s when he disappears while searching for a mythical city in the Amazon that he believes he found on a previous expedition. Filmmaker James Gray (We Own the Night) will be directing from his own adapted script.

Brad Pitt’s Plan B Entertainment is one of the producers on the film alongside distributor Paramount Pictures. Production began just this week in Belfast, and filming will commence in Colombia this September and October.

Holland, formerly known for his performance as Naomi Watts (Birdman) and Ewan McGregor‘s (Moulin Rouge) oldest son in The Impossible, will now share the moniker of Spider-Man. He is the third and youngest actor thus far to have the title, and his rise does not seem to be stopping anytime soon. He will also soon be appearing with fellow Marvel hero Chris Hemsworth (Thor) in Ron Howard‘s (Rush) Moby-Dick inspired In the Heart of the Seaand will act opposite Richard Armitage (The Hobbit series) in Pilgrimage. Holland’s first appearance as Spider-Man will be in Captain America: Civil Warbefore moving on to his first standalone film.
