Universal Pictures Acquires Cameron Fay’s New Comedy ‘We Are Your Pets’

Universal Pictures has acquired Cameron Fay’s (Maybe It’s You) new comedy pitch, We Are Your Pets. The movie is to be written by Fay and produced by Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Entertainment. According to Deadline, not the plot of the movie is being kept private, but their sources say that Fay went to Amblin with the pitch and that’s how it ended in front of Universal. This is not Fay’s first Universal Pictures project: that credit goes to his film Maybe It’s You. The film starred Brett Dier (Jane the Virgin) and Veronica St. Clair (Unbelievable) and followed the two as best friends who decide to date each other after an unsuccessful dating life. Fay was co-chair of the WGA’s Middle Eastern Writers Committee that he formed in 2020 with Paiman Kalayeh (Legends of Tomorrow). Fay was also among the 50 signatures that called for more outreach of more Middle Eastern screenwriters and TV writers. The letter read,

Because of this, we find ourselves at a cultural inflection point, and we’re asking for your allyship to improve this number. Identifying the problem is the first step — taking action is what should follow.

Fay has two directorial projects, This is Going to Hurt and Until You, that were originally on the The Blacklist, a list of Hollywood exec’s favorite unproduced screenplays and scripts.
