Son of Formula One Driver Gilles Villeneuve, Jacques Villeneuve, spoke about the biopic of his father that premiered at the Toronto Film Festival. He was able to go to the premier, but he was able to see clip and said, “I was in tears; it was so poignant.” Gilles Villeneuve was a Formula One driver who passed away at 34 during a qualification race for the Belgian Grand Prix. The official name for the movie is Villeneuve: Rise of a Legend and it follows his career up to the point of his passing in 1982. In a comment about the film, Jacques said,
Time needs to pass. With most movies, there’s always a couple generations that need to have passed, I imagine, for the grandparents to have told stories to their grandkids and then they can view the film together.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the movie doesn’t shy away from the personal aspects of his life, like not being around his family due to his dedication to racing. Jacques added,
Well, he wasn’t there at all. That’s how it was back then, that was the norm. Now we judge it differently. So, we have to keep that in context.
With the movie, Jacques makes it clear,
My father hadn’t won many (F1) races — but he survived for so long because he stayed in the hearts of a lot of fans for many, many years.
