Peter Dinklage to Star in ‘The Toxic Avenger’ Reboot

According to Deadline, Peter Dinklage has been cast to star as the lead in The Toxic Avenger reboot from Legendary Pictures. The film is a reboot of the dark comedy and somewhat cult classic 1984 film of the same name.

Based on the 1984 film, the reboot will be a contemporary reimagining and follow a normal man, who’s life is changed after falling into a vat of toxic waste. After he survives, he is left a mutant freak and is outcast from society. He must then become a hero for his family and his community.

The Toxic Avenger began with the campy 1984 film and was actually a short lived Marvel comic in the 1990’s. After that, there were a few more movies, a musical, and a children’s TV show but the property has largely been dormant for the last few decades, at least in the public eye. The superhero genre has really changed since then as well.

Suddenly, the word “Avenger” means a lot more to the general public than it did in 1984. With successful darker superhero movies as well as comedic superhero movies, it is hard to see how this will not be a success. Now, Legendary Pictures is dusting it off with a marketable lead and talent behind the camera.

The film is set to be directed by Macon Blair, who previously wrote and directed the successful Elijah Wood comedy I Don’t Feel at Home in This World Anymore. A film that seems fitting considering the darkly comedic source material of Toxic Avenger.

Dinklage has continued to be one of the most sought after actors since his successful run as Tyrion Lannister on Game of Thrones. It is refreshing and important to note that Dinklage’s career is not slowing down, even after his most iconic character’s story has been complete. Dinklage brings a serious as well as a comedic presence to all of his roles so seeing him in this and under a ton of make-up will be a joy to watch.

There is no production or release date as of now.
