Big Titles Coming to HBO Max this December

HBO’s streaming service HBO Max has made quite a splash on the streamer scene with more and more big titles making its way to the platform. And it looks like December may be the service’s biggest month yet. 

On December 1, subscribers can expect to see titles like the Russell Crowe led action-adventure, Gladiator, Frank Darabont’s 1994 Stephen King adaptation, The Shawshank Redemption, and Tom Cruise’s 1983 teen comedy, Risky Business. Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring will also hit the platform on the first of the month, along with few favorites from Edgar Wright’s ‘Cornetto Trilogy,’ Hot Fuzz & Shaun of the Dead. That’s just a small taste of what’s coming to the streamer December 1. 

The Photograph, 2020 romantic drama starring Issa Rae and Lakeith Stanfield will land on HBO Max on December 5. The film received praise from critics and audiences when it released earlier this year, earning critic score of 74% with 107 reviews and an audience score of 81% with almost 7,300 ratings on Rotten Tomatoes. 

One of the most anticipated titles to reach the streamer this month is Steven Soderbergh’s new comedy Let Them All Talk, which will premiere on the platform December 10. The film, which follows famous writer embarking on a cruise ship with her old friends as she comes to terms with her past, stars big names like Meryl Streep, Candice Bergen, Dianne Wiest and Lucas Hedges. 

The biggest title of the month, however, is Wonder Woman 1984, which will premiere on HBO Max Christmas day. The film was originally supposed to have regular theatrical release, but after delays and concerns about the ongoing pandemic, Warner Bros decided to release the movie on the streamer the same day as it releases in theaters. The film will have Gal Gadot star once again as the titular hero as she faces two all-new foes: Max Lord and The Cheetah.  

Some films will be leaving the streamer this month as well, including the 2016 horror film Lights Out, which will depart December 10. Paul Thomas Anderson’s 1997 drama Boogie Nights will also leave the platform on December 31 along with Damien Chazelle’s 2016 musical, La La Land. The 1941 classic Citizen Kane will also be taken off of HBO Max sometime this month.
