‘Cheers’ Star Kirstie Alley to Join Indie Drama “A Family Affair”

Kirstie Alley has resurfaced to the big screen as the Emmy and Golden Globe winner of Cheers and Scream Queens fame is set to star in the upcoming independent drama A Family Affair, according to Deadline.

The film, directed by Tim Bartell, centers around a professional photographer named Robert who is embroiled in a midlife crisis involving his younger wife. Robert soon falls head over heels for his no-nonsense mother-in-law Olivia. Both narratives parallel each another, as Olivia must deal with the distance she’s created with her daughter and Robert must succumb to the reality of his dying mother. The duo develop a secret affair through their trials and, in turn, must decide what means more to them in their relationships, specifically with their respective mother and daughter.

Bartell and Jeff Solema of Go East Media have been named the film’s producers, with A Family Affair lined up for a production commencement date in April 2020 in Los Angeles. In addition to her role on Fox’s Scream Queen, Alley most recently appeared in a guest role on ABC’s The Goldbergs. A Family Affair will mark her return to film since 2015, in which Alley portrayed Aunt Rita in David O. Russell’s romantic comedy Accidental Love.
