Judd Apatow’s ‘The Bubble’ Sets All-Star Cast Including: Pedro Pascal, Karen Gillian, and Keegan-Michael Key

Judd Apatow‘s pandemic comedy The Bubble has assembled pretty fun cast. Per THR, the flick is set to star Pedro Pascal, Karen GillanMaria BakalovaIris Apatow, Fred Armisen, David Duchovny, Keegan-Michael Key, Leslie Mann and Peter Serafinowicz.

The cast includes well-known action stars from popular Disney franchises, comedy veterans, and Judd Apatow’s family, which during a pandemic might not be the worst thing. The film follows a group of actors and filmmakers locked down in a hotel in the midst of production coinciding with the start of the pandemic. Their goal: to finish the film they came to make.

A pleasant surprise is the casting of Maria Bakalova, who brought her talents to the mainstream when she played Borat’s daughter just last year. She was wonderful in that film, and hopefully she can bring her comedy chops to this Apatow project. David Duchovny is also an interesting casting. The X-Files star has been mostly appearing in TV series in the last few years, though Duchovny is always a delight to see in anything.

Aside from those two, the rest of the cast is pretty par-for the course with this type of film, which is great. Pascal and Gillan seem like few of the Hollywood A-List that genuinely love to make any kind of film. They bring a fresh performance every time they’re on screen. As does the rest of the cast.

However, this is still a pandemic-based film, which will only be exacerbated as the industry gets back to normal following the end of the pandemic. It was and is a tough time for many, and it is hard to justify any pandemic film when there will be a plethora of them coming in the next few years.

Though, through everything, the talent assembled is still pretty hard to ignore. With a mix of rising and current stars, this film looks to be like a lot of fun and could simply entertain rather than remind people of the pandemic. It can definitely still be a good movie.

The comedy will be directed by Judd Apatow and is co-written by Apatow with Pam Brady. The Bubble is set to start production at some point next week. It can be expected on Netflix at the end of 2021 or early 2022.
