Netflix Adapting Brian Jacques’ ‘Redwall’ into Animated Movies and TV Series

Brian Jacques’ classic and most beloved children’s book Redwall is getting animated movies and TV series from Netflix thanks to a recent new rights deal between Netflix and Penguin Random House Children. The fantasy children’s book has sold 30 million copies worldwide and drew devoted readers with stories of heroism and villainy, many of which were played by mice, moles, hares, and badgers.

Sadly, Jaques will never get to see his works get turned into movies or a TV series. The deal will mark for the first time any of his works turned into a feature film. He died in 2011. The creator of Cartoon Network’s Over the Garden Wall, Patrick McHale, will write the script for this deal’s film side. The animated film will be based on the first book in the series. Netflix will also develop a series on the character Martin the Warrior.

Ben Horslen, Fiction Publisher, Penguin Random House Children, said in a statement published by Variety, “We couldn’t be more delighted to announce this deal. “These perennially popular stories have been etched onto the hearts of millions of readers, and we are thrilled to partner with Netflix to bring those beloved characters on screen for families worldwide to enjoy.”
