Jonathan Levine In Line to Direct Amy Schumer Comedy for Fox

Director Jonathan Levine (Warm Bodies) is in early negotiations with Fox to direct Amy Schumer’s next possible starring role, Deadline reports. The script for the untitled project was written by Katie Dippold (The Heat), and is said to be a semi-autobiographical account of the relationship between a mother and her daughter during a trip gone awry.

Amy Schumer recently scored both box office and critical success with the Judd Apatow (This Is 40) directed Trainwreck. That film’s success, coupled with the beloved Comedy Central show Inside Amy Schumer, means the comedian is considered something of a hot ticket in Hollywood at the moment.

Director Levine is currently a valued talent in his own right, having scored hits with Warm Bodies and 50/50, as well as also being involved in the upcoming holiday comedy film The Night Before, which will see Levine reuniting with Seth Rogen (The Interview) and Joseph Gordon-Levitt (Don Jon). The director’s previous success in comedy is probably one of the reasons Fox is looking at him for the Schumer project.

The project will be produced by Feigco along with Chernin Entertainment, the former being director Paul Feig’s (Spy) own production banner. Feig has previously collaborated with writer Dippold on The Heat and the current female-driven Ghostbusters reboot. The director will also join with Dippold again for The Heat 2.
