John Boyega of ‘Star Wars VII: The Force Awakens’ Added to Cast of ‘The Circle’

John Boyega, who plays the character of Finn in the forthcoming Star Wars VII:The Force Awakens, has been announced as one of the leads in the cast of The Circle, according to Deadline. Prior to Star Wars, Boyega starred in the 2011 British science fiction/comedy indie film Attack the Block.

The casting of Emma Watson (the Harry Potter series) was announced two months ago, with the actress joining Tom Hanks in the film adaptation of Dave Eggers’ book of the same name. The cyber thriller revolves around a technology company, called the Circle, which links users’ information into one universal portal which can reveal everyone’s past and broadcast all aspects of their existence in live video feed, heralding a new level of transparency of personal information and rendering privacy obsolete. Watson will play a new employee of the tech company, where she meets Hanks’ mysterious character. Boyega will play a boy-wonder and visionary icon who develops a relationship with Watson’s character.

Director James Ponsoldt (The Spectacular Now) is also adapting the screenplay. He and Hanks, along with Gary Goetzman, Anthony Bregman, Walter Parkes, and Laurie Macdonald are producing.

The film is scheduled to be released in 2016.
