The immense success of Jurassic World has quickly made those involved among the hottest filmmakers working today. Director Colin Trevorrow (Safety Not Guaranteed) has been tapped to direct the ninth Star Wars film and now his writing partner, Derek Connolly (Monster Trucks), will provide revisions for the King Kong prequel Kong: Skull Island, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The film is far along in the casting stages so it’s unclear how significant Connolly’s input will be in terms of the story, but given his current status, they will likely be rather significant. He joins a distinguished list of writers who have already worked on the film, that includes Max Borenstein (Godzilla), John Gatins (Flight), and Dan Gilroy (Nightcrawler). The story for the film takes place before director Carl Denham led an expedition to capture King Kong and bring him to New York. The film reportedly doesn’t take place before any particular iteration of the story, but rather the general tale. Connolly’s most recent effort is the upcoming animated Paramount film Monster Trucks, where he has the sole screenplay credit.
Kong: Skull Island‘s impressive cast includes Brie Larson (Trainwreck), Corey Hawkins (Straight Outta Compton), Tom Hiddleston (Crimson Peak), Samuel L. Jackson (The Hateful Eight), John C. Reilly (The Lobster), and Tom Wilkinson (Snowden). The movie is set to release March 10, 2017.
