Hulu Strikes Eight-Figure U.S. Deal for Frank Grillo Sci-Fi Action Film ‘Boss Level’

Frank Grillo’s new sci-fi action film, Boss Level, helmed by The Grey director Joe Carnahan, will skip out on its planned theatrical release and instead go straight to Hulu sometime next year. The streamer reportedly acquired the film’s U.S. rights in an eight-figure deal.

Grillo will star as former special forces agent, Roy Pulver, who finds himself trapped in a time loop that repeats the day of his murder. He manages to uncover clues about a secret government project that could explain the mystery of his death, but he’ll have to outrun assassins, safe his wife and find the head of the government program, Colonel Ventor.

Boss Level will also star Naomi Watts, Mel Gibson, Will Sasso, Ken Jeong, Annabelle Wallis and Michelle Yeoh. The script is being written by Carnahan alongside Open Grave writers Eddie Borey and Chris Borey.

The film initially sold to Byron Allen’s Entertainment Studios in 2018, but fell through. A special screening for the film was held at the Arclight Cinemas in Los Angeles last February, where the likes of Walking Dead co-creator Robert Kirkman saw the film.

“it was totally great!” tweeted Kirkman after watching the film. “Nothing like seeing an insanely awesome movie completely cold. Highly recommended… in a few months.”
