It looks like fans of the much-awaited remake of Legendary’s Dune from director Denis Villeneuve are going to have to wait a little bit longer, like three more weeks longer to be exact. News broke Friday that instead of being released on Oct 1 in theaters as well as HBO Max the same day, Dune will now be released on Oct 22. Dune, however, isn’t the only film from Warner Bros. that is getting delayed.
Warner Bros. announced the postponement as part of a broader release date shuffle. The release date of The Many Saints of Newark was pushed back by one week, taking place previously occupied by Dune. The prequel to The Sopranos will also be released on Oct 1, a week later than its scheduled date of Sept 24.
The rescheduling also impacted Clint Eastwood’s upcoming feature Cry Macho, which got bumped up instead of being delayed like the others. Cry Macho has been moved up by one month after Dune seized its prior position with its new date of Sept 17, not Oct 22.
With Cry Macho now on another date, it is set to compete against Paramount’s Clifford the Big Red Dog and Open Road’s Gerard Butler-Frank Grillo film Copshop.
It is interesting to note that Dune’s new release date forces the film to compete with Wes Anderson’s The French Dispatch, which also stars Timothée Chalamet.
