Exciting casting news has emerged on Disney+’s Enchanted sequel Disenchanted. Deadline broke the news Monday that Maya Rudolph, Yvette Nicole Brown, and Jayma Mays are the newest additions to join Amy Adams, Idina Menzel, Patrick Dempsey, and James Marsden. They will reprise their roles as Giselle, Nancy, Robert, and Prince Edward in the sequel from the original. Composer Alan Menken will also be returning.
The director behind hit musical films like 2007’s Hairspray and Rock of Ages, Adam Shankman, will be directing the movie with the expected production start later this spring.
There is not much news about Rudolph, Brown, and Mays’ roles in the sequel, but Deadline has learned that Rudolph will be playing a villain and that potentially Brown and Mays will be playing villains too.
There is not much about the plot of the sequel that has been revealed, but the 2007 movie was a spoof on Disney animated princess musicals. Enchanted followed a cartoon princess named Giselle who gets stranded in modern-day New York City.
Enchanted grossed over $340 million worldwide and was nominated for three Academy Awards in the Best Song category for Alan Menken and Stephen Schwartz’s songs Happy Working Song, So Close, and That’s How You Know.
The latest films that Rudolph has been working on were animated films Disney/Pixar’s Luca and Sony/Netflix’s The Mitchells vs. The Machines.
Brown can be seen starring with John Stamos on Disney+’s recently released series Big Shot.
Mays, best known for the role of Emma Pillsbury on Fox’s Glee and the last movie that she starred in before getting her role on Disenchanted was the comedy-adventure Bill & Ted Face the Music.
