Writer and director Clive Barker has just won a lawsuit that will restore the US rights of Hellraiser back to him. According to The Hollywood Reporter the US rights will officially be returned to Barker on December 19th, 2020. However it is currently unknown if Barker will also receive the movie’s foreign rights.
Hellraiser is horror movie that came out in 1987, and it was written and directed by Barker. The movie is also an adaptation of Barker’s novella The Hellbound Heart. The movie’s plot is about a family that finds a mysterious puzzle that has the ability to unleash terrifying beings called the Cenobites. After it was released Hellraiser created a successful movie franchise, and the movie now has nine sequels. Even people who have never seen a Hellraiser movie can at least recognize the series mascot, Pinhead.
Comic Book Resources reports that Barker will be serving as an executive producer on the upcoming Hellraiser television series that will be on HBO. David Gordon Green, who directed the 2018 Halloween movie, is directing the series, and the show will be written by Michael Dougherty and Mark Verheiden.
The original Hellraiser movie can currently be found on the Amazon Prime streaming service.
