Check Out the First Trailer for ‘Passengers’ Starring Chris Pratt and Jennifer Lawrence

The first real footage of what is aiming to be this generations’ epic romance has finally arrived. The trailer for Passengers quietly and charmingly introduces its two main characters’ love story only to watch it quickly escalate and struggle through danger and destruction in their precarious and unforgiving galactic surroundings.

Passengers stars Chris Pratt and Oscar winner Jennifer Lawrence as Jim and Aurora, two of 5000 other passengers aboard spaceship taking them to a new colony when they are awoken from suspended animation ninety years too soon. The pair begin to make the most of their situation, i.e. connecting over cocktails served by a robotic Michael Sheen (Far From the Madding Crowd). After being alone together for a year, their love story is put to the ultimate test when their ship begins to undergo catastrophic malfunctions.

Written by John Spaihts (Prometheus), the script has been on the Hollywood Black List since 2007. According to Lawrence, “It’s perfection. After reading it I thought I can’t not do this film because it is so good.” Pratt felt the same way. According to the actor,

I just thought if this movie gets made with the two of us, with this story and with this director and we can execute this well, I really think it’s going to be one of the greatest, most original and compelling epic movies I’ve seen…maybe ever!

Director Morten Tyldum (The Imitation Game)  has not been modest in singing the film’s praises either, saying “If every generation has a big love story — I feel like this is it.”

Check out the trailer above as well as the two new images below, and see the movie in theaters on December 21.
