Eight-time Academy Award nominee Bradley Cooper is in early talks to star in Paul Thomas Anderson’s newest movie, per Variety. All that is currently known about the film is that it is a coming-of-age story that will take place in the San Fernando Valley in the 1970’s, Anderson’s hometown. It is unknown what role Cooper is being looked at to play, though we do know that any role in this project is highly sought after.
Cooper’s next project is also with a legendary director, Guillermo del Toro, in his newest film, Nightmare Alley, which is based off of 1946 novel by William Lindsay Gresham. He will be reprising the role of Tyrone Power’s Stan Carlisle in the new edition of the 1947 film remake, which follows a con man and a psychiatrist who work together to try to scheme people out of money.
Meanwhile, Anderson’s latest project was 2017’s Phantom Thread, starring Daniel Day Lewis. It garnered six Academy Award nominations at the 2018 award ceremony. With Cooper potentially in tow and fresh off his own round of nominations for A Star is Born, this newest film looks to earn as much critical praise as Phantom Thread.
The untitled film was originally slated to be produced by Focus Features, but was eventually moved to MGM. It has no announced release or production date yet.
