Netflix in Final Talks For ‘Woman in the Window’ With Amy Adams

Netflix is currently finalizing deal to acquire upcoming project Woman in the Window as a global Netflix event film according to a report from Deadline. The project was previously held by Disney-owned 20th Century Studios.

The thriller is set to star Amy Adams and to be directed by Joe Wright (Atonement, Pride & Prejudice), with Scott Rudin and Eli Bush producing. The outstanding cast also includes Julianne Moore, Gary Oldman, Tracy Letts (who wrote the script), Bryan Tyree Henry, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Anthony Mackie and Wyatt Russell.

The project is based on an adaptation of A.J Finn’s global bestselling book with the same title. Woman in the Window marks the last of the splashy book-based movie projects left behind by Elizabeth Gabler when Disney acquired Fox and abruptly shuttered her Fox 2000 division.

Though the release date has not been revealed yet, it will be announced sometime soon after Netflix’s acquisition of the movie.

In The Woman In The Window, Adams plays Anna Fox, an agoraphobic child psychologist who lives alone in a New York suburb. She grapples with her fear of leaving home, which cost her a separation from her husband and daughter. She also has a problem with prescription drugs and wine consumption. All day, she spends time watching film noir classics and her interaction is mostly online. She spies on her neighbors like they do in the movies she loves. Things get interesting for her when the Russell clan moves in next door and she observes the bond between parents and their teen son that make her long for a reunion with her own family. It takes a turn when she witnesses an act of violence in the house. Then, she must question herself whether she should call the cops or if she has become totally unhinged. The movie is described as a Hitchcockian thriller in the vein of Rear Window and Vertigo, with tone akin to popular, more recent pictures like Gone Girl and The Girl On The Train.
