And the ‘Globes’ Nominees Are…

The list is out for the 75th annual Golden Globes! On the film side, the top nominations are Martin McDonagh’s Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, MissouriSteven Spielberg’s The Post; and Guillermo Del Toro’s The Shape of Water for best Picture in drama.  As for the comedy or musical, Greta Gerwig’s Lady Bird has several nominations including best motion picture as well as best actress for both Saoirse Ronan and Laurie Metcalf. Also going up against the film include productions like WB’s The Disaster Artist, Blumhouse’s Get Out, 21st Century Fox’s The Greatest Showman, and Clubhouse Pictures I, Tonya.

As for TV, HBO’s Big Little Lies took an astonishing six total nominations including best Television in a limited series; Nicole Kidman, Laura Dern, and Shailene Woodley from the show are all up for a Golden Globe as well. FX’s Feud: Bette and Joan received four nominations, including those for Jessica Lange and Susan Sarandon, who are both up for best actress. Tied at three nominations each are This Is Us, The Handmaid’s Tale, and Fargo, a combinations of shows which really highlight the diversity offered in this year’s television, both in plotlines and production houses. ABC’s comedy Blackish is also up for a Golden Globe again for best TV series and ABC’s The Good Doctor has received its first nominations for actor Freddy Highmore.

On the animated competition, Dreamworks and Disney are going head to head as both of their movies, Boss Baby and Coco are up for best animated motion picture and best original song.

The 75 Annual Golden Globes will broadcast live from the Beverly Hilton Hotel on January 7, 2018 with talk show host Seth Meyers leading the ceremony all night. The awards will be selected from a panel of distinguished movie directors and actors from the Hollywood Foreign Press.
