Star of The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975) and Clue (1985) Tim Curry, was announced dead today. The actor passed away in his Toluca Lake Home in Los Angeles with the cause of death not reported but it was confirmed by his manager and friend Marcia Hurwitz. The actor suffered major stroke in 2012 that left him immobilized but Curry confirmed he was healthy. Last year, he went on a press tour for his new memoir, Vagabond, where he discussed his health issue with USA Today. In this article, he stated that he had an aneurysm in his abdomen and didn’t know when it was going to rupture.
Curry grew up in a military family in England because his father served as a Navy Chaplain. In the aforementioned USA Today article, Curry says,
I always wanted to be as good as he was. He was a very good man, very funny guy, and a great listener and very kind. I missed him badly. I was only 12 when he died, which was not fun at all.
Before his feature film debut as Dr. Frank-N-Furter in the Rocky Horror Picture Show, Curry went to the University of Birmingham, where he studied drama. It was after his graduation that he would star in the original London cast of Hair. Curry starred in many projects including the miniseries adaptation of Stephen King’s IT, as the main antagonist Pennywise. Among other projects, Curry also starred in Muppet Treasure Island, as Long John Silver. The official Muppet Instagram page posted a tribute to the actor with the caption,
Few humans have earned the title of honorary Muppet more than the legendary Tim Curry. As a performer he was unparalleled – witty, charming, unnerving, and deeply funny. We will always consider it one of our greatest treasures to have been part of Long John Silver’s crew. Thank you for everything, Tim.
Curry was 80 years old when he was passed.
