News broke exclusively from Deadline that the Young and the Restless star Sasha Calle will be learning how to fly as DC Universe’s newest Supergirl. She’s going to make her debut in Warner Bros’ The Flash movie.
In an uplifting video via Instagram, Calle was informed that is got the role from The Flash director Andy Muschietti. She got the part out of 425 actresses who auditioned for the role. It is also of note that Calle will be the first-ever Latina to play Supergirl in DC.
Callie joins Ezra Miller as Barry Allen, aka The Flash, Michael Keaton, and Ben Affleck as their version of Batman. Billy Crudup will star as Barry Allen’s father.
According to Deadline, the actresses were not told what role they were reading until very late in the auditioning process. Calle also had a chemistry read with Miller, and all of it was done over Zoom, meaning all the auditions, chem reads, and meetings were done behind a computer screen. Production is expected to start soon and will hit theaters on Nov. 4, 2022.
“I saw more than four hundred auditions. The talent pool was truly amazing, and it was very hard to make a decision, but we finally found an actress who was destined to play this role,” said Muschietti.
Actress Helen Slater was the first to bring Supergirl to life in the 1984 Warner Bros movie and then Melissa Benoist in the hit TV series on the CW.
