Willem Dafoe (The Grand Budapest Hotel) has joined Noomi Rapace (Prometheus, The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo) and Glenn Close (Guardians of the Galaxy) in the cast of What Happened to Monday. The sci-fi action thriller will be directedy by Tommy Wirkola (Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters). The cast also includes Marwan Kenzari, Christian Rubeck and Paul Sverre Hagen.
The ambitious project, set in the not too distant future, will take place in an overpopulated and famine-stricken world that has undertaken drastic measures to curve the growing population in the form of a One-Child Policy. The story will focus on seven sisters living as a single person each named for every day in the week, pursued by the Child Allocation Bureau. Raised and taught by their grandfather, each can only go out in public on the day corresponding to their name. One day, Monday does not return to their apartment.
Dafoe, a longstanding actor with three-plus decade career, is most known for his roles in Platoon, Shadow of the Vampire, The Boondock Saints, and Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man films.
Production on the film has already commenced in Bucharest, Romania.
The release date is set for some time in 2016.
