The Peter Pan origin story Pan has officially been pushed back from its July 24 release date, which, according to Warner Bros., gives the film’s creators enough time to really do the film justice. The movie stars Hugh Jackman (pictured above as Blackbeard), Rooney Mara as Tiger Lily, and Amanda Seyfried as Mary and will tell the story of how Peter Pan came to Neverland in the first place.
Alongside Jackman, Mara, and Seyfried, the movie also stars Levi Miller as the boy who never grew up, Garrett Hedlund as Hook, and Adeel Akhtar as Mr. Smee. Joe Wright (Atonement) is directing the flick, and stated of the delay that it “allows me and my team the time to complete the movie and tell the story the way it should be told.” The movie delves deep into the backstory of Neverland, as seen in the trailer released late last year (see it here).
The film was written by Jason Fuchs (Ice Age: Continental Drift, Wonder Woman) and is being produced by Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, Paul Webster, and Tim Lewis. Pan‘s postponement to a later date this autumn means it will no longer be competing with the many tentpole movies already being released this summer, including Terminator Genisys, Ted 2, Ant-Man, and Minions.
Pan’s new release date is October 9. The only other movies set to premiere that weekend are Universal’s Steve Jobs and the tentatively titled Kidnap from Relativity.
