Warner Brothers made major headlines earlier this month when the studio announced that it was planning on releasing all of its 2021 blockbuster movies simultaneously in theaters and on the streaming service HBO Max. This decision has been controversial one and many prominent people in the film industry have come forward and voiced their displeasure with Warner Brother’s plan.
One of the many movies that Warner Brothers said they will be releasing this way is the upcoming reboot movie of Dune. However according to Movie Web it could be possible that Dune will be getting a traditional theatrical release after all. Apparently Legendary, the company that is producing Dune, was unaware that Warner Brothers was planning on releasing their movie in this way. Legendary and the director of Dune, Denis Villeneuve, are unhappy with Warner Brothers, and both Legendary and the director have announced that they will be taking legal action against Warner Brothers if Dune is released this way. Legendary has made similar threats regarding the release of Godzilla vs. Kong as well.
Dune was supposed to be released earlier this year in November but it had its release date moved to December of 2020. Now it has officially been moved to October 1st, 2021, but it is unknown if it will be released only in theaters or simultaneously in theaters and on streaming.
