Those who were looking for a healthy double dose of Jungle Book movies in the near future may be a little disappointed. Warner Brothers announced this morning that their project would be pushed back a full year to October 19, 2018. Despite the negative connotation that delaying the release of a film could have, director/star Andy Serkis wrote a very optimistic and enthusiastic post about it on his Facebook:
The delay was also likely due in part to the release of Disney’s , directed by Jon Favreau, which is in theatres next weekend. This puts a little bit of time between the two, and the hope is that perhaps casual film goers will have their Jungle Book palette cleansed by then.
It wasn’t all bad news however, as the studio also announced that Wonder Woman will be released 3 weeks ahead of schedule on June 2, 2017, rather than June 23, 2017. This most likely has something to do with the fact that the next Transformers film is scheduled to be released that weekend, and W.B. and DC did not want the films to divide the profits, especially after the nose dive in ticket sales from Batman V. Superman. Wonder Woman will now go up against Bad Boys 3.
Finally, Warner Bros announced that an “Untitled WB Event Film” is to take the old Jungle Book slot on October 6, 2017, and a pair of “Untitled DC Films” are set for October 5, 2018, and November 1, 2019. No word on what the films may be, but comic book fans everywhere should certainly be happy.
