Tommy Lee Jones Joins Brad Pitt in ‘Ad Astra’

Tommy Lee Jones is in the final talks to join the cast of Ad Astra, that will be starring Jones and Brad Pitt and will be directed by James Gray, according to Deadline. Jones, an award winner for many films but known mostly for playing Ed Tom Bell in No Country For Old Men and Kay in the Men in Black franchise, appears to be cast as the father to Pitt’s character, who is an Army engineer in search of his father who disappeared during an expedition into space to find alien life.

Pitt, widely known for his roles in a host of films including Fight Club, World War Z, and Inglorious Basterds, has been linked to two other Gray films in the past, but his role was never finalized for either for various reasons. Speculation for Pitt’s casting in Ad Astra stems from the complications with the World War Z sequel that was pulled from the release calendars.

Gray most recently directed The Lost City of Z in 2016, and has co-written the film with Ethan Gross, who was the writer behind Klepto and a few of the episodes of the TV show Fringe. Plan B is the producer along with Gray, Keep Your Head Productions’ Anthony Katagas, RT Features’ Rodrigo Teixeira, and Mad River’s Marc Butan.
