Timur Bekmambentov to Adapt Julian Perry’s short ‘Don’t Peek’ into Feature Film

Timur Bekmambetov, best known for his thriller Wanted starring Angelie Jolie and the live-action shooter film Hardcore Henry, is set to adapt Julian Perry’s horror short Don’t Peek into full-length feature. The short premiered March 15th at South By SouthWest Film Festival (SXSW), which was the first day of SXSW Online. Terry uploaded the short to YouTube during quarantine in October, and it quickly blew up, and was accepted into SXSW.

According to DeadlineDon’t Peek follows young woman who is playing the popular Nintendo game Animal Crossing late at night. She soon discovers that the frightening video game character wants to cross over into the real world. Perry filmed the short with the help of only 3 people with a pocket camera.

Don’t Peak will be produced by Majd Nassif under Bekmambetov’s production banner Bazelevs.

Don’t Peek is a follow-up short to the thriller They Hear It, which was picked up by Legendary, and Whisper, by Amblin. Bekmambetov and Nassif also produced the Screenlife film iBible and the smartphone version of Romeo and Juliet titled R#J . Both films are also screening at SXSW this year. Creative executive Pavel Bozhkov will oversee the project. Terry is repped by CAA and Good Fear.

Melissa Cusano: I love to escape reality with reading, writing, movies, and music! If I'm not working I love to go to concerts (pre-covid), play video games, and hang out with my dog Ozzi.
