The Flash, the upcoming standalone feature centering around DC’s speedy superhero mainstay, has hit bit of snag as Seth Grahame-Smith has reportedly departed the Warner Bros. feature. The film, which will star Ezra Miller (The Perks of Being Wallflower) as the iconic comic book character, was previously set to mark Grahame-Smith’s directorial debut – he dropped out due to “creative differences.” The Hollywood Reporter was the first to break this story.
Grahame-Smith, who previously wrote the novel and screenplay for Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter and penned Tim Burton’s recent Dark Shadows, will maintain his screenplay credit on The Flash however. He expanded on an initial treatment written by The LEGO Movie‘s Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, who were thought of as potential directors of The Flash at one point. There hasn’t been any further details revealed as of yet over who may take over the director’s seat.
Gardner Fox and Harry Lampert conceived “the fastest man alive” Flash character who also goes by Barry Allen – currently actor Grant Gustin is essaying the character on the popular CW show The Flash but won’t carry over onto the extended DC Cinematic Universe. Miller, previously known for his acclaimed work in art-house titles including The Perks of Being Wallflower and We Need to Talk About Kevin, debuted in the role (albeit very briefly) in the recent Batman v Superman and will next be featured in Justice League: Part One due in theaters on November 17. 2017.
While Grahame-Smith won’t direct The Flash, he still has a relationship of sorts over at Warner Bros. having penned the upcoming The LEGO Batman Movie and continuing work on Beetlejuice 2. The Flash is expected to open in theaters on March 16. 2018.
