On the heels of the announcement of her involvement in the upcoming X-Men film, Inde Navarette has now been cast in The Waffle House Index from Apple Original Films. The upcoming sci-fi thriller will also be executive produced by Navarette alongside Plan B Entertainment. Louis Paxton is slated to direct the screenplay written by Andrew Nunnelly, who reportedly sold the script rights in a seven-figure deal.
Plan B is led by Brad Pitt, Dede Gardner, and Jeremy Kleiner. In collaboration with Apple, they recently distributed the sports drama F1, also starring Pitt. Other projects to come from the production company include Jane Schoenbrun’s arthouse horror film Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma as well as the upcoming adaptation of The Bell Jar starring Billie Eilish.
The Waffle House Index will follow a Waffle House waitress (Navarette) whose “already bad day gets worse when a stranger with a gun shows up during her night shift. What happens after involves a mass flood, killer crocodiles, a nuclear explosion, a magical bunker under the Waffle House, and aliens.”
Navarette gained widespread acclaim and recognition for her role in the 2026 horror film Obsession, directed by Curry Barker. The low-budget film grossed $505 million against its $750,000 budget. The actress is now the face of Focus Features’ upcoming awards campaign, as she will be submitted in the Best Leading Actress categories amidst next year’s circuit. She was announced at this year’s D23 expo to portray mutant super-heroine Rogue for the Jake Schreier-directed MCU-set X-Men film, slated for a May 2028 release.
