Spike Lee’s ‘Da 5 Bloods’ Unveils Release Date For Netflix

Spike Lee’s upcoming joint, Da 5 Bloods, is finding a new home on Netflix due to the coronavirus. The famed director’s follow-up to his Oscar-winning 2018 film Blackkklansman has been given a release date of June 12, 2020, according to Deadline.

Lee brought the announcement to social media earlier this morning. With a powerful cast consisting of Chadwick Boseman, Jean Reno, Delroy Lindo, Jonathan Majors, and Paul Walter Hauser, Lee’s drama follows a quad of African American Vietnam veterans venturing for the remnants of their deceased squad leader with the promise of a hidden treasure. The squad fends off the might of adversaries and nature that litter the battlefield of the Vietnam War.

Da 5 Bloods’ supporting cast includes Clarke Peters, Isiah Whitlock Jr, Norm Lewis, Mélanie Thierry, and Jasper Pääkkönen. Lee, of course, will be directing the film based on a script that he compiled alongside the talents of Danny Bilson, Paul DeMeo, Matt Billingsly and Kevin Willmott.

Da 5 Bloods‘ production team includes Lloyd Levin, Beatriz Levin, Jon Kilik, and Lee himself. The film will mark the fourth collaboration between Lee and Netflix, following Lee’s televised adaptation of his directorial debut She’s Gotta Have It, the one-man show Rodney King, and his upcoming time travel drama See You Yesterday.
