Sony announced today that the sequel to Spider-Man: Homecoming will debut on July 5, 2019 and Bad Boys 4 will bow on May 24, 2019 – July 4 and Memorial Day weekends. Spider-Man: Homecoming, the first film in the third round of Spidey franchises is due in theaters on July 7, 2017, and stars Tom Holland as the new young Peter Parker. Bad Boys 3, with Will Smith and Martin Lawrence reprising their lead buddy cop roles, hits the box office on January 12, 2018.
That is a two year gap between Spider-Man films, and around a 1.5 year gap between Bad Boys, likely due to the fact that the third film, Bad Boys For Life, was originally slotted for June 2, 2017, but was later pushed.
Marvel just released the first teaser for Spider-Man: Homecoming this week. Alongside Holland is major presence from Tony Stark (Robert Downey, Jr.) as the teen superhero’s Avengers mentor. Holland’s Spidey first debuted in the MCU in this year’s Captain America: Civil War. Holland is contracted to appear in the role at least six different times, in his own stand-alone films as well as Avengers and other stand-alones.
The Bad Boys franchise, rebooted after 15 years, was one of Will Smith’s first tickets to fame. The original also made a huge impact on the buddy cop genre. The third installment will be directed by Joe Carnahan (The Grey), taking over for Michael Bay, the original helmer. Little else is known about the plot or additional casting.
